Presentation on the FCC Backup Power Regulations

David Hebert, VP of Operations for Supply Performance Testers, is one of the leading speakers in the country on the importance of functioning standby power in our communication networks. For years Telephone, Cellular and Cable TV communication networks were built, upgraded and and added too without regard for the standard engineering standards and practices that made our original telephone networks work when the power went off. Massive communications network outages during Hurricane Katrina has brought about the FCC Backup Power Regulations that we have been following in this blog.

Since the new FCC Regulations on the Redundancy of Communication Networks hit the Federal Register, David has been speaking to SCTE groups across the country about what they mean to the cable industry. He believes that the FCC is determined to get these mandates through the few obstacles left and to start enforcing them. After many of those seminars participants have asked David for copies of the presentation. This slide presentation was put together to fill that request.

This presentation was done on October 29, 2008 at the SCTE Training Session in Tampa Florida. All of the information presented was current as of that date.

Please note that the audio quality in the first 15 seconds is bad but improves dramatically after that. Hang in there it gets better quickly.
